The Alabama Water Institute recently welcomed student intern Kaden Archer.
Archer, a rising junior at The University of Alabama, joined AWI in spring 2024. He is majoring in environmental science. Archer works under Amanda Blair, CIROH research project manager, and Lanna Nations, AWI research education and outreach program director.
Archer works primarily with CIROH data implementation and in coordinating logistics for AWI events.
“I got interested in AWI after reading an article about how NOAA awarded UA and AWI $360 million to create CIROH and lead a national water effort.” Archer said. “I sent an e-mail to the different directors at AWI, and we were able to coordinate a time for me to come and meet the team. I instantly felt like this was a place where I could see myself working.”
Archer joined AWI to gain experience in water-related fields that will prepare him for his postgraduate plans.
“Water is one of the most prominent issues we face as a country, which is why I believe the work we do is so essential,” said Archer. “I get many things out of working here, but mainly I get the feeling of knowing what I am doing is helping others. I am passionate about helping others by using my skills and the resources available to me.”
