The Alabama Water Institute and the Community Oriented Nature-based Science for Ecosystem Restoration and Versatile Engineering Research Group, or CONSERVE, recently welcomed student intern Peter Feldkamp.
Feldkamp, a rising senior at The University of Alabama majoring in biology, joined AWI as an undergraduate research assistant in summer 2024. Feldkamp works under Michael Fedoroff, director of CONSERVE.
Feldkamp tends to CONSERVE’s learning garden and collects data for ongoing CONSERVE projects such as cultivating lambsquarter for the Choctaw Nation and the Rivercane Restoration Alliance project.
“I got involved with AWI because I’m passionate about community-focused solutions” said Feldkamp. “Water is essential for everything.”
Feldkamp appreciates the team-based nature of AWI and the professional experience he has gained while working here. “AWI is a good step in my career,” Feldkamp said. “It provides pathways into research and shows me the difference I can make in communities.”
