CIROH Visiting Scholars Program Creates Lifelong Collaboration

The CIROH Visiting Scholars Program provided Dr. Mohamed Fathi Said and Dr. Wei Zhang with everything they needed to learn about hydroclimatic whiplash. Through their research collaboration with Dr. Mukesh Kumar, high-performance computing resources and plenty of uninterrupted coding time, these visiting scholars impacted hydrologic forecasting and created a lifelong friendship and collaboration.

UA’s Colton Byrne Selected 2026 Goldwater Scholar for Marine Geology Research

Colton Byrne has been named a 2026-2027 Goldwater Scholar for his first-of-its-kind research on seafloor sediments near Thwaites Glacier, work that is helping scientists better understand Antarctic glacial recession and sea-level rise. Byrne conducted the research under Dr. Rebecca Totten, a CONSERVE Faculty Fellow and a Goldwater Scholar herself.
